This Privacy Policy explains how Voxeli ("Voxeli", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Voxeli mobile application and related backend services (together, the "Service"). Voxeli is an audiobook reader that converts books you provide into narrated audio. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.
• Profile picture. If you choose to set a profile picture, the image you select is uploaded and stored so it can be shown in the app.
• Books and content you add. When you upload a book file (.txt, .pdf, or .epub) or import a public-domain title, we store the source file and the text extracted from it, along with derived content such as chapter splits, generated summaries, and synthesized narration audio.
• Reading activity. We store your playback progress, bookmarks, notes attached to bookmarks, favorites, and playback preferences (such as narration voice and speed) so your library and progress sync across your devices.
• Support communications. If you contact us, we keep the messages you send and our replies.

Information collected automatically

• Log and technical data. Our servers automatically record request metadata such as IP address, request paths, timestamps, and error information. This is used for operating, securing, and debugging the Service and for rate limiting.
• Usage tallies. We keep a per-day count of the amount of text you send for narration so we can enforce fair-use limits and control provider costs.

Purchases and subscriptions

Voxeli offers paid subscriptions and one-time purchases through your device's app store billing system. When you make a purchase, we receive a purchase token and order identifier, which we verify and store to determine your entitlement (for example, whether you have an active subscription). We do not receive or store your full payment card number or billing address — that information is handled by the app store.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your uploaded books or reading activity for advertising.

3. Legal bases for processing

Where data-protection law (such as the GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you have signed up for (accounts, library, sync, narration, purchases).
• Legitimate interests — to secure the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce fair-use limits, and debug problems.
• Consent — for optional features you actively choose, such as setting a profile picture. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data to comply with applicable law.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the limited circumstances below:

• Service providers. With vendors who process data strictly on our behalf to operate the Service — for example, cloud hosting and storage, generating narration audio from text, delivering account emails, and verifying purchases. They are bound by contract to use the data only to provide these services to us and to keep it confidential and secure.
• Legal and safety. When we believe disclosure is required by law, legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Voxeli, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you of any change in control or use of your personal information.

5. Data retention

• Account data is kept for as long as your account is active.
• Books and derived content are kept until you delete the book or your account. Deleting a book also removes its stored source file, extracted text, summaries, and cached narration audio associated with it.
• Reading activity (progress, bookmarks, favorites) is kept until you delete it or your account.
• Purchase records are retained as needed to manage entitlements and to meet tax, accounting, and legal requirements.
• Logs are retained for a limited period for security and debugging and are then rotated out.
• Password-reset tokens expire shortly after they are issued and are removed once used or expired.

When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify personal data associated with it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records to comply with the law or resolve disputes.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed password storage, access controls, and rate limiting. Your book source files are stored privately and are never served publicly. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion — ask us to delete your personal data.
• Portability — receive certain data in a portable format.
• Restriction and objection — ask us to restrict or stop certain processing.
• Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent.
• Non-discrimination — we will not deny you service or charge you a different price for exercising these rights.

You can update your name and profile picture in the app, delete individual books from your library, and request account deletion by contacting us. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have not handled your data properly, you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International data transfers

We operate globally and your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in such countries.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
